Theme: The theme of the song has references to the size of ones body, in other words stating that no matter how much you weigh, you are perfect and unique. The song has a 1950's feel to it, I think this is due to the type of beat and instruments that are used in the music itself. This is demonstrated through the type of clothing that the artist and dancers are wearing in the background; clothing like polka dot dresses, patterned tights, bow which is tied on the head and flat shoes. These types of clothing can be seen in movies which were made about that time such as Grease. I believe they used this type of costume in order to give an 'Innocent' feeling to the song to further emphasise a positive message to the video. The bright colours are used throughout the whole video, they are even used in the bedrooms where they perform; bright colours can subliminally suggest positive messages to the audience. The also use the theme of Barbie and Ken (which where popular toys around the 1990's and early 2000; this also adds to the positive feel of the music video.
Camera Angles: The predominant shots that are used in this music video are close ups, long shots
medium shots. The close up shots are used in order to show the positive expressions on the artists face as she lip synchs to the lyrics, which will suggest that she is giving a positive message. The medium shots are used in order to show the artist and to partially show the background; for example in the third screenshot I used, the medium shot used shows the artist in the middle and the dancers in the background along with the bright pink background. The long shots are used to show the scenery and the dancers showing there choreography. The long shot is probably the most important shot used as it gives hints to what the message behind the song really is. For example, in the second screenshot that I have shown, the long shot shows the composition of the two actors; the composition shows how a Barbie and Ken toy set would look like.
Editing: The editing is very fast paced, which is used in order to match specific shot in sync with the artists lyrics; for example, at the beginning of the song at around 0.24, the artists lyrics state 'cause I got that boom boom boom'. At the same time the a shot of one of the dancers dancing provocatively (in what the media today would call 'twerking'). Another example is when the lyrics state 'I see them magazines, working that Photoshop'; as this happen a shot of 'before and after' comes on screen in synch with the lyrics. In conclusion the long shots are used to give hints of the message behind the song.
